Let us talk about pure road presence and raw practicality today. We have all seen those tiny hybrid badges on regular city cars that barely save you any fuel. But a new patent has just dropped in India that completely changes the definition of a hybrid vehicle. A massive technology backed startup called Rox Motor has just patented a gigantic luxury SUV for the Indian market. It is currently known as the Rox 01 or Adamas. Honestly, it looks like an absolute monster ready to eat up our highways.
The Best of Both Worlds
I have been closely tracking the premium electric vehicle space lately. The silent cabin and the instant punchy torque of something like the Lexus ES 500e is pure magic when you want a refined driving experience. But driving a low slung electric sedan on broken intercity highways can sometimes make you a little nervous about ground clearance and charging stops. Sometimes you just crave a towering heavy duty SUV that gives you that exact same electric silence inside the city, but never forces you to hunt for a charging station on a long cross country road trip. This new Rox 01 fills that exact gap beautifully.
A Towering Boxy Tank on Wheels
Let us picture the sheer physical footprint of this machine. It measures nearly 5.3 meters in length. That makes it significantly longer and wider than a Toyota Fortuner. Driving this boxy old school shaped tank through the crowded streets of Surat will make traffic automatically part ways for you. It sits on massive 21 inch wheels with thick tires that will swallow our deep Indian potholes without sending a single jerk into the cabin. It has an insane 272 millimeters of minimum ground clearance. Heavy monsoon waterlogging will never scare you again because this beast can easily wade through 770 millimeters of deep water. You can literally drive it through small rivers.
Violent Acceleration and Endless Range
Now try to feel the power delivery. Under the hood sits a 1.5 liter turbo petrol engine. But the real heartbeat of this SUV is the massive 56 kWh battery pack feeding a dual motor all wheel drive system. When you stomp on the accelerator pedal, the motors unleash a violent 469 brake horsepower and 740 Newton meters of torque. That kind of massive twisting force will pin you hard against your seat. It pulls this incredibly heavy metal tank from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour in just 5.5 seconds.
Here is the absolute best part about owning a true plug in hybrid. You can charge it at home and drive 235 kilometers purely on silent battery power. That means your daily city runs from Adajan to Piplod will use absolutely zero drops of petrol. But when the long weekend arrives and you want to drive from Gujarat all the way to Rajasthan or Maharashtra, the petrol engine takes over. The combined range of a full battery and the 70 liter fuel tank gives you a mind blowing 1226 kilometers. You will physically get tired of driving long before this car ever needs a fuel stop.
A Private Jet Lounge Cabin
Opening the heavy doors with their soft close function feels like stepping into a private jet. Forget about regular uncomfortable bench seats. If you pick the six seater layout, the middle row treats you to VIP lounge seats with extendable calf supports. Every inch is wrapped in rich Nappa leather. These seats will heat up on cold mornings, give you a deep massage after a long day at work, and blow cool ventilated air during our blazing hot Indian summers.
You and your family get to enjoy massive 15.7 inch crystal clear 3K resolution screens in the front and the back. A premium 14 speaker sound system turns the heavily insulated cabin into a rolling concert hall.
We do not have the exact launch dates or the final Indian brand name yet. But if this mammoth technology loaded SUV hits our shores soon, the traditional luxury car segment is going to experience a massive earthquake.
